Live Life Disability Support Services: Virtual Reality Equipment
For many disabled people, the nature of their disabilities excludes them from participating in day-to day activities which many of us take for granted.
Virtual Reality (VR) provides an opportunity to change this by enabling them to experience situations, activities, and environments that they would never otherwise have been able to. Access to VR also provides the opportunity for practice and rehearsal of social skills and daily interactions in a way that reduces risk and allows disabled people to learn and develop at their own pace.
The Care Foundation has funded the purchase of two VR sets for Live Life Disability Support (LLDS). One set is located at the LLDS Day Services site where sensory stimulation is an integral part of its programme and the addition of a VR set enables a more active and immersive experience. The other set can be accessed by disabled people supported by LLDS for use in their own homes.
