Support for Impoverished Elderly

In 2021 the Better Living Conditions (BLC) initiative was established by Age Concern Nelson Tasman in response to a need to bring a multi-agency approach to those involved in supporting older adults in the region in poor living conditions.

The BLC approach means that older adults living in unsanitary conditions are helped in a consistent, sustainable and efficient way.  These people often have poor support networks, limited finances and health conditions which are not assessed or treated due to barriers in accessing healthcare.

To support the BLC initiative, The Care Foundation provided a grant towards a discretionary fund to help purchase medical equipment, household basics, transport to and payment for health appointments.  This funding will enable Age Concern Nelson Tasman to intervene quickly where needed and ultimately improve the living conditions for these people.
